How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
I think if you're going to thrive in consulting, first, you need a lot of energy and to be in good health. This is commonly overlooked because you'll be working long hours and not just on work. You'll also need time to build relationships with clients and co-workers.
This means after work, you might want to hang out with them. So, you absolutely need a lot of energy and to maintain your good health.
Second is definitely organizational skills. You will probably have three or four things going on at the same time, always have three or four projects going on simultaneously. Not necessarily projects with clients, but it could be one internal project, one working with the rate investment, and also, at the same time, working with another partner on a third thing.
So, how are you going to have the time and organize yourself so that it doesn't stop you from proceeding on any of those projects? This is very, very important.
Lastly, the final one would be your resilience. How do you not take anything personally and how to recover quickly from your failures? You will face failures every single day. How do you grow fast, get past all the failures, and always be optimistic when the next challenge comes?
So, I would say those are the three traits I see in people who thrive in consulting.
