The skills I'd say are important include a business or finance background because you deal with a lot of numbers and negotiate terms. Good communication is also crucial, as you'll be speaking to landlords, property managers, and other groups depending on how the business is conducted at the company.
You'll need good negotiation skills. You can't just accept whatever the landlord says; that's not always going to be your final deal. You should be able to negotiate the terms of your lease or sale.
Also, pay attention to detail. We have to read over our leases and legal documents to make sure we don't miss anything, so attention to detail is important.
Negotiation skills, good communication, and the ability to deal with different types of people are essential because no landlord is the same. I have one landlord who is super lax and just does whatever he feels like. I have another who is very by the book, needs to read everything, and insists on things being done a certain way. So, you need to be able to deal with different personalities.
