A Day In The Life Of A Media Analyst At Variety Intelligence Platform
A media analyst's day-to-day work at Variety Intelligence Platform involves either crafting "short form" articles by analyzing data from various sources and building arguments supported by this data, similar to "an argumentative essay," or focusing on longer reports requiring collaboration with the design team and multiple revisions. This role's core involves "reaching out to data partners," formulating analysis, and drawing conclusions to produce insightful media analysis.

What does a day in the life of a media analyst look like?
It really depends on the day. As I've mentioned, there is some variance to what I do.
On a typical day when I'm not working on a long-form report, it's mainly about working on a current story or coming up with new stories to work on or pitch. This mainly entails reaching out to data partners or anyone who may have released data we're interested in. I'll ask to take a look at it, or explain what we're thinking of doing and ask to collaborate.
Then I formulate my analysis based on the data, or based on a piece of news that's happened, and build out the article from there. I try to have my main argument in mind and build from that.
It's really similar to the argumentative essay writing you might learn in school. Here's your claim, here's all the data to back it up, and then draw conclusions from that. So that's what my day-to-day looks like.
If I'm working on a long-form report, I'll usually step back from the short-form side of things. This is to focus on getting the data in place and working on the analysis for it. It's a different form of the same basic process, but there are more moving parts.
Those reports tend to have more design elements. We put them out in PDF form and work with our design team to get the pages in place. That will go through multiple iterations. So those are really what a typical day looks like on both sides of my main responsibilities.
