Truth, a History Teacher and Adjunct Professor, finds the greatest fulfillment in "getting to know so many people" from diverse backgrounds and hearing "so many different perspectives" in their role. This allows Truth to support students, particularly first-generation students from minority groups, in their growth and aspirations, with many expressing a desire to become educators themselves.

What do you enjoy most about being in your current role?

I enjoy getting to know so many people because in the prisons, I've taught so many different people who come in and out of my classrooms. They all remember me, and it's a lot of people for me to remember, but I love that.

I'm with so many diverse people. I've heard so many different perspectives because I get to hear the students' voices and support them in sharing their voice. I love supporting them, helping them be heard, and getting their truth out.

They often say, "I knew this all along, but I never knew there was evidence to support this." I really love doing this. A lot of them want to become teachers.

I want to see more first-generation Black and Brown individuals, and language learners who have difficulty communicating, grow and then become educators, become teachers. I think that's the most fulfilling thing: to see people learn, grow, excel, and inspire others.
