Who thrives in industry?
People who thrive in career counseling are genuinely interested in continual learning and growth. If new jobs are constantly emerging, you have to be someone who enjoys attending conferences and networking with industry professionals.
This is because I can't advise students on interview questions or resumes if I don't know what employers are looking for. So, you must be willing to be curious and to continue learning.
It's also important to have work-life balance. There's a lot of pressure on career counselors to help students find jobs, internships, and grad school programs. Managing that pressure means creating a healthy work-life balance.
Therefore, being curious and maintaining work-life balance are key to thriving in this field.
