What have you learned about this role that you wish someone had told you before you entered the industry?

You actually spend the least time doing actual research, most of your time is spent before and after the actual project. This is because you need to talk to a lot of stakeholders. You need to evangelize your findings and ensure they are making an impact.

I see some researchers holding onto their academic research skills. These are absolutely important and critical, especially at the beginning of your career.

However, over time, to become a leader—and by leader, I don't just mean leading projects or managing others, but becoming a thought leader and influential character in your organization—how you allocate and take advantage of the time before and after your research will make you stand out.
