Transcript

As someone who identifies as an immigrant, how has that impacted how you've navigated?

I came to the States for my Master's when I was 23. It was also my first time being in the States.

As an immigrant, especially a "Generation Zero" immigrant, I observe that I'm more grateful and curious about things I have in life. I think America is just really full of opportunities.

As long as you work hard, are curious, and are passionate about what you do, you will be rewarded. Nothing will be handed over to you; that's kind of the immigrant mindset. I really don't see myself as privileged or entitled to anything.

So, if I'm lucky to get promoted or given an opportunity to work on a project, even though I have to work overtime, I'm grateful for those opportunities. Having that grateful attitude and being willing to put in the work, thinking less about what I deserve, can make work and life more enjoyable, and good things will come along.
