Significant Career Lesson From A Production Coordinator At Girls Gotta Eat

Tessa's most significant career lesson is adaptability, viewing each role as an opportunity to expand one's skillset—"adding it to your toolkit"—rather than linearly progressing. This approach allowed Tessa to proactively learn social media skills through various roles, ultimately leading to a social media management position and illustrating the value of saying "yes" to opportunities and being vocal about career goals.

What is one lesson you have learned that has proven significant in your career?

I think being adaptable is key, especially in how your skillset develops. Treat every job, or role within a job, as an opportunity to learn new skills and add them to your toolkit.

Don't approach things too linearly, thinking "I'm learning to be a producer, so I can only produce afterward." Instead, consider what you're learning as a producer that you can apply to other skills.

That's how I've always approached it. When I graduated college, I didn't have much social media experience, and I really wanted to learn it. I found a way to do that in this job.

I even became a social media manager for their second company for a while. Because I hadn't had those classes, I wanted to find a job where I could improve those skills.

So, I think taking every opportunity, saying yes to things, and being vocal about what you want to do will help you build your repertoire as you progress in your career.
