What entry-level positions are there in this field that an undergraduate college student might consider?
For both internal and external audit, there are two main ways to enter the industry. You can complete an internship while you're still in school, perhaps during the summers.
Alternatively, upon graduation, you can be hired as a staff auditor. While you're in school, take advantage of networking opportunities with alumni, friends, or parents who are in the industry. There's no shame in getting some help to get your foot in the door, as you'll have to prove yourself once you're there.
I'd say take advantage of any connections you have in the industry. Many people in the field understand how difficult it is to start out. They are often happy to reach out and help a younger person along the way.
