What does a day in the life of a senior internal auditor look like?

A day in my life as a senior internal auditor isn't necessarily typical because I live out of state from my company. Even before COVID-19, I worked remotely 100% of the time.

Before COVID-19, I was traveling a lot. When I wasn't traveling for work, I was at home. I typically wake up and sometimes go to the gym, though not as often as I should. Each day is different depending on the phase of testing we're in for the year.

Because I'm remote, I have a lot of Zoom meetings or phone calls. I'll typically have a meeting or two with subsidiaries. We also have an internal audit team meeting once a week to ensure we're all on the same page.

There's a lot of autonomy afforded to me. I can go a day or two, or even three, sometimes without speaking to anyone on my team. As long as the work gets done, there isn't someone watching over your shoulder all the time, which is nice. They're always there if you need to reach out.

We have a pretty small team, only eight of us. It's a very collaborative team, but we all work independently for the most part. It's not unusual for me to go a day or two with my only coworkers being my dogs.

It can get lonely at times, but it's also nice. I have no commute. The people are always around if you need help with anything or need to do a last-minute Zoom call. It works out well.
