What skills are most important for a job like yours?

I'll start with hard skills and soft skills. Hard skills include being good at project management. No matter your role or industry, managing timelines and understanding project goals is essential.

This means knowing how to organize a timeline, write a project charter, and identify key stakeholders and decision-makers. You should also learn their leadership and communication styles to know how to approach them effectively for decisions, feedback, or other contributions to the project. Project management is a huge area.

In a similar vein, a lot of my job involves taking a lot of information and presenting it to different audiences. Being good at designing a visually appealing PowerPoint slide with key information is also very important. This is a two-in-one skill: graphically communicating something, having strong writing, and presenting it effectively.

Lastly, I would say emotional intelligence, empathy, and being able to read a room, especially a virtual one, are crucial. When working with diverse global teams, with different cultures, backgrounds, and ages, it’s important to be empathetic.

Being early in your career can be interesting when working with people who have much more experience. It’s important to show grace, be empathetic, read the room, and adjust your communication style.

These are the most important skills for any role, particularly for marketing specialists and those working on projects.
