What are your main responsibilities within your current role?
My title is Marketing Specialist. I feel like it's one of those things you don't realize until you're in corporate, especially at a big company: your title can be one thing, but what you actually do in your role can be very different. That's how I describe my role.
My title is Marketing Specialist, but where I sit on my team is in strategy and planning. I describe my role as threefold. First, I lead strategic projects and initiatives that help our broader organization run more smoothly. This includes things like travel logistics and how we organize all of our files using Microsoft products.
Second, I bring educational information to the team on processes or trends that are developing and that our team needs to be aware of. My favorite part of my role is fostering moments of connection within our virtual team environment. Since Cisco sells products for hybrid work, and most of my team works remotely, I lead team culture and team-building initiatives in a space where people are thousands of miles apart. It's a challenging but rewarding part of my job.
Third, I'm still involved in some of Cisco's big events, helping throughout the planning cycle for these large conferences. So, I still have my hands in event marketing, but the majority of my role is now project management and leading strategic initiatives that help our team run smoothly.
Specifics include bringing educational opportunities to the team, like having outside speakers. Right now, a lot of that focuses on AI and how we can use it at events and in our other work. My role also involves ensuring everyone is aligned to priorities at Cisco, within the marketing organization, and in the world.
There are lots of different things that encompass my role, but I really enjoy it. So, when you see "Marketing Specialist" or meet someone in marketing, they could be doing many different things. This is what I do as a Marketing Specialist.
