What does a day in the life of a marketing specialist look like?
It probably comes as no surprise, but every day is really different. My team is global, so sometimes I'll hop on at 8:30 or 9:00 AM, take my time, and look at what I have going on for the day to make my to-do list.
But some days, I might have a meeting with someone in Singapore and have to start my day at 7:00 AM. Or, I might have a meeting with someone in Australia and have to stay on a little later, meeting at 7:00 PM.
Every day is different, but I try to be good about setting boundaries of just eight hours of work total. The time has definitely been an adjustment, but now that I'm used to it, I actually really like that every day is different.
I can be a little flexible with my time because I'm working remotely. Regardless, at some point in the day, I have to log on and get started. For me, I am most productive in the morning.
I always start my day by making a to-do list, looking ahead at the week to see what big projects we have coming up. I also consider any important meetings or team meetings and what I need to do to prepare for them.
As soon as meetings start, usually mid-morning through the afternoon, I'll meet with various team members about the projects I'm working on. This includes providing status updates or getting a group together to go over our most important action items for the week.
I also have a lot of one-on-ones with my team members just to check in. While a lot of it does have to do with work, I always try to sprinkle in some time to "catch up and chat" about what's going on.
In the afternoon, I take time to revisit the to-do list and handle any messages and emails that have come through. It's a lot of collaborating with my close team members and stakeholders across the broader team.
It's very project management-based, looking at timelines and making sure action items are moving along. I reach out to people, reminding them to give me what I need, whether it's a slide deck or a status update.
So, lots of chatting with people, moving projects along, and keeping an eye on what's coming up. I also make sure my leadership is prepared for whatever they need for broader team meetings and things like that.
To summarize, I spend a lot of time moving projects along and collaborating with my teammates to ensure we get everything done.
