What does a day in the life of your role look like?
I'm pretty lucky to work at SWCA. They're a really flexible company.
For me, a typical day doesn't mean going to the office or staying at home. I choose to go to the office two days a week normally, and I am at my home office three days a week.
On average, I usually have two to three meetings each day, either with clients or internally with some of the different project teams that I'm currently on. The rest of my day is usually planned around my upcoming deadlines and the writing work I have on some of the projects I'm engaged with.
At the beginning of the week, I look at all of the upcoming deadlines I have and plan the amount of time I need to spend on each project that week in order to get it done. Most of the time, that's either writing some of those NEPA documents or progress reports for our clients with grant-funded work.
There's also a lot of research and other tasks that are necessary for completing this work. This includes making sure we have a good understanding of the regulations for the specific type of project we're working on, and ensuring our client is able to produce what's needed to follow through on that.
The really fun thing about environmental consulting is that every project is different and requires something a little different. There's not ever just one project I'm working on; there are usually four to six different projects that I'm engaged on at a given time.
