What a Senior Finance Director at Parker Meggitt Wishes They Had Known Before Entering the Finance Industry
Shawna, a Senior Finance Director, learned that the unpredictability of the role — "you're never going to know what your day looks like" — is normal, a fact that prior warning would have eased the transition. The interview also revealed a missed opportunity to better heed a predecessor's warnings about work-life balance challenges which ultimately contributed to the predecessor's burnout.

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you ever started?
I think the biggest thing someone warned me about was that you're never going to know what your day looks like when you first start planning it, and that's okay. That would have been really welcome information.
I did pre-interview the person who was exiting this role before I took it. He warned me of some challenges, and he was effectively leaving his position due to burnout.
Maybe I wish I had taken some of his warnings a little more seriously and tried to understand how I could better manage work-life balance, which can sometimes be a challenge.
