What skills are most important for a job like yours?
As a coach and developer, a significant part of my role is listening to others and understanding their perspectives without judgment, shame, or blame. I've focused on developing my skills as a listener, asking questions, and probing to uncover the underlying reasons and rationale for observed behaviors.
Caring about people's development is also crucial in my role. I'm passionate about helping my clients progress, rather than simply having clients for financial gain. My business growth depends on the positive experiences my clients have and their willingness to promote me.
Owning your own business requires skills like drive, work ethic, passion, and adaptability. I'm still working on my adaptability; we all have areas we need to grow, and that's mine. I tend to like control and things fitting into neat boxes.
When you own a business, things can fall apart, get messy, or be disrupted by cancellations, weather, or travel delays. Learning to understand these circumstances and move on quickly is a key skill.
