What are your main responsibilities within your current role?

Currently, at the International School of Aruba, I am the secondary lead. This means I manage our secondary school team meetings, logistics, and problem-solving. I also support a few teachers.

As a teacher, I'm responsible for planning and delivering lessons, assessing students, and working with kids. We all generally know what teachers do.

When I was a principal at two different schools, the responsibilities were much bigger. I was involved in strategic planning and managing people, which included hiring, firing, coaching, developing, and providing professional development.

I also managed finances and resources, and at one point, I even handled payroll. Additionally, I was responsible for community outreach and working with parents to ensure their engagement with the school. The primary job of a principal is often ad hoc problem-solving and handling challenges as they arise. Of course, efforts are made to prevent these challenges, but every day is different. In my last two major roles, these were the key responsibilities I focused on.
