Biggest Challenges For A Senior Content Program Manager At An Edtech Company

Sasha's biggest challenge as a Senior Content Program Manager is the constant "context switching" between diverse projects in different phases, leading to mental fatigue and sometimes tedious administrative tasks. The sheer complexity of coordinating numerous individuals across projects, a "geometric increase in complexity," presents another significant hurdle, making the role demanding despite the collaborative nature of the work.

What is your biggest challenge in your current role?

Context switching can be a challenge. You're often working across very different projects that have very different phases, from something established to something brand new. Mentally draining if you have four or five meetings back to back about entirely different things.

Program management can also be challenging because it's an operational and tactical role. It can sometimes get very in the weeds with administrative tasks that, even if not difficult, can be a little boring.

The coordination part can be fun, but also challenging. When you have a linear increase in the number of people involved in a project, there's a geometric increase in the complexity of coordination. It can feel like herding cats, not because colleagues aren't helpful or capable, but because there are many cooks in the kitchen with a lot going on at once. This can make for a challenging situation.
