Significant Career Lesson From A Serna Center Coordinator At Sacramento State
Saray emphasizes the significance of "self-advocacy," stating that without it during sophomore year of undergraduate studies, career progression would not have been as successful as it has been. Self-advocacy involves having the courage to "stand up for yourself, making sure your questions are answered," and continuously seeking what is needed to move forward, even if it means asking many questions.

What is one lesson that you've learned that has proven significant in your career?
One thing I haven't mentioned yet is the importance of self-advocacy. If it weren't for self-advocacy, I don't think I would have gotten as far as I have in my sophomore year of my undergraduate career.
Self-advocacy is basically having the courage to advocate for yourself, to stand up for yourself. It means making sure your questions are answered.
As long as you have what you need to continue moving forward, continue doing that, even if it means asking a million questions. I'm going to really, really highlight self-advocacy in this section.
