What skills are most important for a job like yours?
A few things come to mind. First, in a communication and marketing hybrid role, communication is probably one of the biggest priorities. Being a strong written and verbal communicator is a skill that, no matter your job or industry, will get you really far.
On top of that, finding ways to tell stories and communicate creatively is a big part of my job. I'm always thinking about the elements of a good story and trying to bring them to any communications or content I'm working on. This takes creativity.
It's something where I like to brainstorm with people and be open to new ideas. I also look for ideas in the world around me. I consider what other brands are doing, and what good books and podcasts I enjoy. These can help inform and spark ideas when it comes to creating content for a tech company.
Another skill that is often overlooked but has gotten me really far in my career is project management. The ability to be on top of something, document things well, track things well, and report on your progress well is key. It's not something I ever focused on doing, it just came naturally. However, I've heard throughout my career that it makes me a strong asset to a team.
So, I would say communication, creativity, and project management are probably my top three skills.
