What skills are most important for a job like yours?
I would say organization, attention to detail, and communication, along with Microsoft tools. I use Excel and Outlook throughout my day. While different companies might use Google Sheets or Gmail, knowing Excel and finance is pretty important.
I'm definitely no expert, but I love working with people who can teach me new skills. There are so many keyboard shortcuts, tools, and equations you can use in Excel to make your day easier and more efficient. Being efficient with your time also goes hand in hand with your organization.
Attention to detail is so important in finance. If a number is off by one decimal or you miss a dollar, it can totally affect the rest of your calculations on a project. Or, if you miss a client's phone number or get one digit wrong, you won't be able to contact them. So many things tie into that attention to detail.
My communication style is also really important, especially working remotely now. It's crucial to always update your team members and bosses. Having that level of organization and being able to share your to-do lists, tasks, or updates in your CRM, portal, Notion, or any system you use is so important in your day-to-day work.
