Transcript

How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?

You have to find people interesting because people are at the core of what we do here at the firm. It's everything, so you have to find people interesting.

I think you also have to be observant and understand human dynamics. Be able to put yourself in other people's shoes and understand their motivations and incentives.

The very best recruiters have a sixth sense for candidates' motivations, clients' motivations, and investors' motivations. Sometimes these things align, and sometimes they don't.

You're playing to different stakeholders at different stages and trying to please different people in different ways. If you're not willing to be curious and educate yourself about the industry and how those dynamics work, and you don't have a sense for where people are sitting and how to walk a mile in their shoes, you won't thrive in this industry.

You might be able to do okay, but if you're really talking about thriving, you need that sixth sense around these people dynamics.
