Ross, as a Director at SPMB, focuses on candidate development, which is akin to sales, pitching client opportunities to potential candidates sourced by analysts and moving them through the recruitment process. The work builds upon experience in the analyst role, which is "largely around driving and executing research strategies for our clients", and the next career stage would involve managing entire projects.

What are your main responsibilities within your role?
I'll start with the analyst role because that is the entry-level position. From there, I can explain how I reached my current role and what I do now.
The analyst role is primarily about developing and implementing research strategies for our clients. This involves identifying the industries, technologies, and companies from which we should recruit.
Then, we pinpoint the specific individuals at those companies who would be of interest to our clients. Analysts break down companies, organize data into spreadsheets, and add potential candidates to our database. That's the core of the analyst role, though there are other smaller tasks involved.
The next position is what we call the candidate developer role. This is typically for associates or directors.
In this role, you actively recruit individuals for our client companies. Once I have a list of potential candidates for our clients, I'll reach out to them to gauge their interest.
I'll use various channels like email, LinkedIn, phone calls, or texts to connect with them. It then becomes a sales-like process.
I'll present the client opportunities, try to excite them about the roles, answer their questions, and guide them to the next stage. This could be a meeting with the partner or project manager overseeing the search, or directly with the client.
Our clients will then interview them and move them through their hiring process. That's essentially where I am today. The next step for someone in my position would be to manage my own projects, which is a separate topic.
In summary, the role involves research and candidate development, which is very similar to sales.
