Q9: Wish I'd known before about the industry.

What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you entered the industry? You're going to wear multiple hats.

When I first started admissions counseling, I thought the primary role was to support students in their admissions process and go over their needs and wants. I didn't realize I'd be wearing multiple hats.

I do come from an education background, so I understood most of it. However, I didn't realize I would be with students throughout the entire process, from the beginning to the day they step foot on our campus.

This includes understanding how everything works, from admissions applications to enrollment, going over financial aid and finances, and even living on campus and all the little details. If someone had perhaps walked me through a daily process of what that would look like, it would have been a little easier when I first started.

Instead of thinking I was just going to be more about admissions, like a front-counter type of role, helping students find their programs, I'm happy it's more than that. It allows me to be out in the field and be an educator and a mentor to our students.
