What do you enjoy most about being in your current role?
A really important part is educating families. Many families simply don't know the options available to them.
This includes informing them about the different colleges and what's out there. It also involves explaining the financial aspects, like different scholarships and grants, and what those mean.
I always tell my families that I'm a resource person. I provide as much information as possible because I feel that our high schools don't really do this. We don't educate families on what our students are capable of doing outside of high school.
I know we have some great community colleges and other schools nearby. My goal is to give students all the information they need to choose the best pathway for them.
It's one of my favorite roles when I get to do family meetings. Sitting down with parents and students, we can really dive deep into what they want to do. I act as a guide, providing information for the best pathway for them.
Sometimes, that pathway may not lead to our university. But it's important for them to know what's possible. I feel many people don't get that opportunity, so doing this has been a blessing.
