What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?
I think it's really working alongside fellow mission-driven people. There's typically not a whole lot of ego, at least not among the folks that I choose to work with. We're all just committed to doing work that's hopefully expanding opportunities and access for the people in communities who need it most.
People are really committed to strengthening our communities little by little. Selfishly, I love that I get to learn something new every day about different communities, different issues and challenges, and different ways to approach problems.
I also learn about different perspectives and different ways to do work more efficiently. Often, my fellow colleagues and I share best practices. But I'm also learning things from all of my clients and people that I work with.
Meeting new people all the time allows me to continue to grow and evolve, not only as a professional but also as a person, a mom, a community member, and someone who cares about making things better in the world. I think that's what's really great about working in nonprofit.
