What does a day in the life of a global marketing and communications intern look like?

Every day looks different, but typically I start my day with a lot of planning. Sonoco is a company with over 20,000 employees, and I don't work in isolation. I work with a team.

Usually, I start by planning and meeting with other communications business partners. We try to understand what they're working on and share what I'm working on because we all have a pool of certain resources. We use tools and technology to update our tasks.

So, I usually sit down with other teams. This is where I get to collaborate with copywriters, graphic designers, and product marketing teams. We understand how we're going to utilize our resources, what upcoming events there are, and how to plan our social media calendar. We discuss what's going out from my division and their division.

A big part of my day is spent planning and collaborating with other divisions within the team. Then, the second part of my day gets exciting because I get to start executing some of the things with the people on the ground.

I then meet with sales teams and business development managers. I work with people across the US and the Netherlands, trying to help them plan who they're meeting, what marketing support they need, and what marketing collateral they need. We discuss if they're going for an event or an expo and how we represent the company.

It gets exciting when I meet with them and see how best I can support them in acquiring new customers. Towards the end of the day, I take some time to plan again. I put together and track my short-term milestones because I have a long-term strategy.

I consider what I've done today that brings me closer to my long-term marketing strategy for the business. Towards the end of the day, I do a lot of reporting and analytics. I review how our posts performed, customer feedback, and event success.

So, towards the end of the day, I prepare reports to submit to my top managers and ensure I'm on track for my long-term goals.
