What have you learned about this role that you wish someone would have told you before you entered the industry?
I think whenever you're in leadership, you never realize the reality of the job never stops. I wish I had known better how to manage the off switch.
How do I walk away when the day is over, or how do I walk away on the weekends feeling a sense of calmness and appreciation for my own time? It's really hard to feel guilty at times when you are not responding to communications or thinking deeply about problems you are trying to address or resources you are trying to locate.
For me, I always have to have third-party reminders of the amount of time I need to invest in my own self-help and wellness. This allows me to show up and be the leader I know I want to embody on a daily basis.
That's also dependent upon me understanding my needs and how to keep them provided for. Then I can show up and make decisions in a very present, tangible way without feeling exhausted or unable to dedicate the necessary thinking during the workday.
