What is your biggest challenge in your current role?
The biggest challenge right now in leading an organization is the idea that we don't have the resources we need to truly support students. I think the way we fund our educational system, particularly in California, is not representative of the diverse communities we serve.
This is especially true for low-income areas with many students who need social-emotional support, and in many cases, just shelter or mental health services. Wanting to meet the needs of all students can be overwhelming because what they need, we often don't have the resources to provide.
I would love for us to think differently about how we fund our educational system. It needs to be more representative of the new needs that exist in supporting students beyond just their academic programs. I believe our educational system is increasingly being called upon to step up and support our communities.
