How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
Within marketing, the people who thrive the most are those who can build relationships. You have to be able to do marketing, and it truly does have some aspect of sales involved.
It may not be the cold-calling type of sales I started with, trying to book appointments. But there is still some aspect of business development. Does this make sense for both sides? Negotiations have to be a factor.
I would say that's definitely a core piece of it. Being analytical is another huge aspect. Again, whether you think about it from the business development side of building a partnership, or the aspect of getting your hands dirty and diving deep into a problem.
This means becoming a technical expert, whether that's in Google Paid Ads or Meta's ad platform. It's about really understanding how the system works. That can be really fun.
It gets you into machine learning and AI, and those things bridge many different aspects of our society. I think that's really fun to continue to be a part of. What drives performance is finding that interest in it.
So, coming back to something we discussed earlier, intellectual curiosity to always be investigating will definitely be a huge piece of it.
