Favorite Parts of Being an Economist at The World Bank
Pedro's most rewarding experience as an Economist at The World Bank involved successfully persuading governments to adopt alternative policies that improved citizens' welfare; this success was particularly evident in the Chinese government's rapid translation of Pedro's project analysis book and subsequent submission of "the best prepared projects" to the World Bank.

Q5: Favorite parts - role
What did you enjoy most about your most recent role?
The thing I enjoyed the most was successfully convincing a government that their policies were not the best. I enjoyed showing them that if they changed their policies, they could positively impact the welfare of the people they were responsible for.
Whenever you achieved that and saw the results of your arguments or your power to convince someone to change, it was great. This was especially true when the recommended policies were successful, which we always tried to make them.
I can give you a very good example. In the book I wrote on project analysis, I was very pleased to see that the Chinese immediately translated it. From the projects they later submitted to the World Bank, we could see they were the best-prepared projects among many countries. That was very satisfying.
