How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
You have to be self-sufficient in this industry. I'll first talk about my role. You need to be independent and self-sufficient.
You must be good at not being micromanaged, able to set your own schedule, and comfortable with uncertainty. You have to accept that each day can be very different and things can change quickly.
In the beginning, when we were scaling, there were days my manager would say, "Hey Patrick, can you fly to Indianapolis this Thursday?" You had to be willing to just say yes and do the work.
You need to be okay with things not going according to plan. It’s also important to have backup plans and solutions in place.
This industry is very fast-paced, especially in sports. As you move up from college to professional levels, it becomes even faster. You have to be comfortable dealing with many personalities.
Understand that you are one piece supporting the team, and they are under a lot of pressure. This is especially true if a team expects to win but is losing. They are getting pressure from the top down.
You need to be very proactive, responsive, and able to solve problems very quickly.
