What are some of the main responsibilities within your current role?

My main responsibility has a lot to do with the engagements I'm on. As a manager, you are tasked with basically running the engagement from beginning to end.

This involves project management skills, budgeting, and resourcing. You need to ensure you have the right people to execute the role and also handle the delivery. Depending on the scope of your engagement, you would interact with clients, usually C-suite individuals.

In my practice, we work a lot with Chief Audit Executives and sometimes Chief Risk Officers. Other practices may work directly with CFOs or CEOs, depending on the project's scope.

Consulting, given the nature of our work with banks, broker-dealers, and wealth and asset management companies within the financial services industry, is often confidential. I can't talk about specific clients or give intricate details.

However, I can say that we work on various problems our clients approach us with and help them find solutions. Sometimes, we provide a blueprint of their problem statement and the best way to solve it, considering our experience with other clients and any applicable regulations.

In addition, clients may ask us to continue and implement the suggested solutions. This is the implementation phase, where we work with the client, examine their resources, and map out the future and current states. We then help them execute the plan.

Sometimes, I am brought in to conduct risk assessments. I do a lot of SOX projects and SOX assessments. I also do pre-IPO readiness work for companies looking to go public. For example, during the SPAC craze, we advised companies on SOX compliance.

It really depends on the company, and there's no typical day. In addition to client work, I also manage and motivate my team. A significant part of my job is assisting the people working for me, not just with project requirements but also with their overall career progression.

UI has an apprenticeship model, so we focus on developing our team members and reinforcing their learning. It's a very familial environment, and I'm proud to see the growth and development of the people I work with.
