Favorite Parts of Working in the Public Sector as a School Board Member

What Noel enjoys most about being a School Board Trustee is the "sense of purpose" derived from being entrusted by the community to understand and oversee the multifaceted aspects of running schools, from HR and technology to curriculum and special education, and then to synthesize that knowledge to benefit students. This sense of purpose is fueled by a love of learning and the desire to "graduate students that are ready for the world."

What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?

I think it's the sense of purpose that comes with being entrusted, first of all. Being entrusted to have good judgment and the commitment to look at all of the different things that make schools run, which is a tremendous amount of things.

Everything from HR to business, to technology, to special education, curriculum, instructional methods, and professional development. I could keep going on and on, as you can tell.

I've always liked learning. So, just learning about all those different things and taking in the comments and questions that people have in my community, since they've chosen me as the person from the community to be there and invest the time, I think that sense of purpose is really powerful.

Just to be able to be a part of all that and then be able to come back and explain things that are very long or extensive. It's all going to be foundational to getting our test scores up and making sure that we are graduating students that are ready for the world.
