Favorite Parts Of Being A 2nd Grade Teacher At KIPP Northern California

Nina, an educator and 2nd grade teacher, finds the most rewarding aspect of her role to be the continuous learning, stating, "We're just always learning more, learning how to sharpen skills." This continuous growth, coupled with the classroom autonomy to creatively respond to student needs—like a recent painting project inspired by student suggestion—fuels Nina's passion and enhances their teaching.

What do you enjoy most about being in your current role?

What I enjoy most is everything I learned, whether it's from adults or students. We are always learning more, learning how to sharpen our skills even more. I just enjoy that it makes me feel like I'm working towards something and investing in myself.

I'm also investing in myself to become a better educator and a better person overall. I also enjoy the freedom I have to create in my classroom and be responsive to the wants and needs of my students.

I'm fortunate at my school that we have autonomy in our rooms to some degree. It's really cool when a student suggests, "Let's paint this day," and I can say, "Oh, yeah, let's paint. That's a good idea."

That's one thing I've really learned to love. It helps keep joy and brings in student interests, my interests, and we can connect on other things outside of just [unclear].
