What do you enjoy most about being in your industry?

I've moved industries quite a bit in my career. It spanned from the entertainment industry slash tech, where I am currently. Before that, I was in consumer packaged goods (CPG). I worked for a vitamin company, and before that, I was in retail.

The thing I'd like to clarify is that some people stay in one industry, and their job role is fitted for that industry. My role as a strategic sourcing manager is not industry-specific, which makes it fantastic because you can plug and play me anywhere.

So, if tomorrow I decide I'm not in entertainment anymore, I can move into pharmaceuticals and still negotiate technology and deals, and help people problem-solve. There's a difference between an industry and a role. Some roles span multiple industries, while others are stuck in one.

Currently, I'm in the entertainment industry, and I think the perks are what I like most about it. There are so many perks of being part of Disney or Netflix because it's entertainment. There's a lot of Hollywood sparkle to it, which makes it really fun.

You get to go to premieres, meet famous people, and work with individuals who are often in the news. Many of the projects I've worked on have been publicized. No one, for example, is going to publicize a new technology implemented at a vitamin company.

My role as a strategic sourcing manager is not industry-specific. If you choose the strategic sourcing route, it can be very broad, allowing for a lot of job stability. You can move between industries and be successful.

I do love the entertainment industry, but I wanted to be clear that strategic sourcing as a whole is beyond industry. I've been in multiple industries, and while entertainment is super fun, CPG is extremely strategic, and you work with people globally. Retail is extremely stable for sourcing, which is very interesting.

There are many benefits to different industries, not just entertainment. Specifically for me, entertainment is a really fun industry to be in.
