What have you learned about this role that you wish someone had told you before you entered the industry?

The biggest takeaway, and not to sound cliche, is that the grass is always greener. Anytime you're selling, there are a lot of competitors out there, offering different jobs. It's easy to think that if you were somewhere else, it would be easier and you'd be more successful.

But after being in the industry for 12 years, talking to people who have switched companies and those at competitive companies, everyone faces the same problems. No matter where you are or what role you're in, everyone is dealing with similar issues.

Some people might handle them better, but the core problems are the same for everyone. Understanding and accepting this makes it easier to focus on fixing issues instead of complaining.

You can either complain and look for something new, only to face the same problems, or realize everyone is going through the same thing. Then, you can work through it as a team to solve them, so your organization benefits.

This is an important lesson that wasn't shared with me beforehand. I learned it through experience, and I find myself sharing it often because, again, everyone is dealing with it. Even if you feel alone, ask others in your role, and most will say they face the same challenges, perhaps in slightly different ways.
