What do you enjoy most about being in your current role?
I think being a people manager is important. When I was in my second year back at Lyme, I was moved from an individual contributor role into a people manager role. I resisted the idea at first, as I saw leading a team as slowing me down.
I believed I could figure things out faster on my own, and that's probably true. However, even when you're managing a team, you gain a lot. Understanding different perspectives and seeing the personal growth of those who work for you brings a lot of satisfaction. This satisfaction is important for enjoying your job on a daily basis. So, I think people management is the number one most enjoyable part.
Secondly, I always choose to work at places where I feel I will have a lot of impact. It's helpful for the company to have a lot of impact, but I find it's really awesome when I can connect my work to direct benefits for the company, and indirectly to the company's customers.
So, people management and impact are key.
