College Experiences That Helped A Technical Product Manager At Top Rank University Succeed

Najmieh credits building a "very strong network of people" as the most impactful college experience for career success, noting that while education and repeated coursework had value, the network provided invaluable insights into navigating the professional landscape and developing essential soft skills, such as "what stuff you shouldn't even getting closer to." Networking didn't necessarily land a job, but rather gave "more information about people" which proved to be crucial.

Transcript

What did you do in college to set you up for success in your career?

Networking was important because I pursued multiple graduate degrees. I wouldn't say it was the biggest takeaway.

Actual learning of course material was what I gained from college. Many things felt repetitive. For example, I took a project management course three or four times during my studies.

What I did do was build a very strong network of people. This doesn't necessarily land you a job, but it provides more information about people. You learn about soft skills, what to look out for, and what to avoid. This kind of insight is something I learned from building a large network.
