What is your biggest challenge in your current role?
It's a really great question. I think this is probably the case in many different fields within the nonprofit industry, but overall, the need for services is always great.
I think especially now, the need feels very great, perhaps even greater than during normal or pre-COVID times. It's easy to want to come into a role and approach it with a desire to fix everything and ensure everyone who needs support has access to resources.
I think it's really tough and frustrating when you hit roadblocks and aren't able to help everybody. That kind of approach can often lead to burnout very quickly.
I've found that focusing on what you have accomplished in your own work to make a difference, instead of focusing on what you haven't done or what should have been done, has been a helpful mind shift. It's not a perfect solution, but approaching it in that way can quickly drain your energy.
This has been difficult for me to work with, but it's also nice that I've found a challenge to help with that.
