What skills are most important for a job like yours?
Organization is number one. You'll often be asked to find things and need to be able to produce them immediately. Having your Avid project really organized, so you know exactly where to look for things, and your editor knows where to look for things, is really key.
There's a standard for how people typically set things up. Making sure to have all the folders where you expect them, and importing music where you expect it, means everything can be found. That's number one.
Number two is anticipating requests before they come to you. Knowing what people want before it happens is great because it makes them happier when you can give them what they need a little bit faster. As you do a few episodes, you start to learn when specific people need certain information.
The last thing is to go above and beyond always. If you're offered the chance to edit a scene, for example, you really want to be able to take that. Some really good editors ensure you have time to edit the scene while you're still on the clock.
However, sometimes you have to work a little extra, go a little beyond, to do your own job plus the scenes you're offered to edit as a bonus. That's how you can get noticed.
