What skills are most important for a job like yours?

I would say for any position, you have to be social. That's the most important thing. A lot of people underestimate being a social person, even though I'm an introvert.

So, I don't like being in front of people, or in crowds or at parties. But I know that I have to be social for me to get the things I need done. Being social and interacting with different people, teams, and departments is very important.

That's the only way I can get through bottlenecks. I have to create those connections. A lot of people have problems launching whatever product, business, or project they have. So, I would say that's the most important skill.

After that, I would say not too many technical skills. As a director or manager, you'll have people who specialize in different things. I don't need to know how a machine works; I just need to know who knows how to fix it if it doesn't work.

I don't need to run the machine, I need to know who runs it and who's responsible to make sure it runs. I don't need to know how to build a building; I just need to know who does. It's not always important to know all the trades and skills.

It's important to know how to manage the different trades and departments and to be social enough to connect them all. Then, I would say leadership skills are very important.

I always believe in servant leadership because you're doing things and setting examples for others. People respond to that a lot better than you demanding things. Having a good leadership outlook and a positive attitude go a long way.

Everything else can be learned. You don't want to have a set of skills that only works for one job. It's better to have the soft skills, the social skills, and the ability to adapt to different environments. Those are more important than hard skills.
