What are your main responsibilities within your current role?

I work for the program management office for a specific project. This project is a multimillion-dollar, multi-year initiative that requires oversight in addition to our executive leadership.

My role involves a couple of specific areas of responsibility. First and foremost, I track the project budget. This includes looking at our actual spending, reporting to stakeholders and executive leadership, and forecasting.

I'm responsible for understanding our budget status and advising leadership on our capacity for additional work or resources. While I don't make all the decisions, I am 100% responsible for the budget.

Additionally, this project has five or six work streams. I functioned as the scrum master for the initial work stream, which kicked off the project.

A Scrum Master is an agile role that facilitates the team doing the work. I help keep them on task and address issues that may arise outside the project, especially when working with users and other stakeholders. I am currently a scrum master for a different squad.

I also support our program manager, who is ultimately responsible for ensuring all work streams meet their deliverables, key performance indicators, goals, and objectives. I provide him with the information he needs.

He and I also conduct leadership updates for our direct executives and for stakeholders in Tokyo who are involved in the project. This often involves creating PowerPoint decks and organizing meetings.

My three main areas of responsibility are the budget, my scrum master duties, and leadership updates. I consider these my three main "buckets."
