Favorite Parts Of Being A Program Manager At A Film Studio
Miriam, a Scrum Master/Program Management Office professional at a film studio, enjoys the "transformation" aspect of projects, specifically tackling complex challenges like optimizing large finance organizations. The opportunity to build solutions from a "blank slate," such as designing work streams to gather 50 data points from various departments and seeing the project's successful delivery, is what excites Miriam most about their role.

What do you enjoy most about being in your current role?
Listening to all the British accents from everybody in the UK and learning a new language. I call it British.
What I love about this job and about projects is the transformation. It's the chance to look at something that's working, but perhaps not as well or optimally as it could. How do you take a large finance organization and introduce change effectively?
I mean, one of our other work streams is called organizational change management. While I'm not directly in that work stream, I support it sometimes with communications and other things. I've also had the opportunity to work in enablement and OCM work streams on other projects.
It's an interesting space because you're immersed in the project all day, knowing it inside out. Then you approach others, for whom the project's impact might only be 10% or 15% of their week. You need to get their attention, ground them in what you're doing and how it will affect them, and help them understand what they'll need to do post-project.
It's that constant challenge and a bit of a blank slate. This project was somewhat of a blank slate. We were given 50 data points that all these organizations and departments would need to answer. We had to figure out how to tackle this massive problem.
From there, we built all the work streams. Seeing them start to deliver and watching it all come together is really exciting.
