There are a number that come to mind, but for me, these are the fundamentals first and foremost. You've got to be a good communicator, especially when it comes to an arena that depends so heavily on data analysis.
Many people think all you need to do is crunch the numbers, but that's really only part of the story. You have to be able to communicate your findings in a way that is interpretable and understandable to whoever your audience is.
Whether it's a client, a judge, a lawyer, or someone else, you have to be able to communicate well. You also need to be able to communicate in many different mediums.
Often, the person you're talking to most frequently is a teammate, and you need to get something done with that person. If you can't communicate what you're doing well enough, or frequently and transparently enough, a lot will be lost.
Ultimately, this can have a negative impact on your work product and whatever you're delivering. So, communication is absolutely key.
Being organized with your time is fundamental as well, because there's a lot going on all the time. You have to be able to stay on top of your schedule and your tasks.
This allows you to be a dependable, trustworthy teammate who delivers excellent work, which most people at Analysis Group want to be. So, communication and organization are crucial.
You also need to be a team player because everything you do is within the context of a team. I also had another one in mind: being curious and having a willingness to learn.
The work folks do at Analysis Group is not easy. I came in knowing very little and recognizing there was a lot I needed to learn. My first few months, I leaned heavily on a couple of people.
Every day, I talked to them, asked questions, and tried to pick their brain to get the best possible insights. This helped me do the job as effectively as I could and become the best analyst I could possibly be.
So, having that curiosity, that drive to learn, and being humble enough to ask questions is absolutely key to success as well. To summarize: communication, organization, teamwork, and that curiosity, that desire to learn. I think those are real pillars of success at a place like Analysis Group, and frankly, anywhere else.
