How would you describe people who typically thrive in this industry?
I'd say people that are go-getters. They'll see a story just published, maybe in the New York Times, and they know that day they can reach out and be like, "Hey, I saw you wrote this story. It's similar to what I represent. How can we best work together?"
Honestly, people that are kind of hungry and always on the lookout, always looking for new riders, new stories, new travel trends that we can build off of. I think also, some of our pitches are definitely more creative.
So, someone that can think in a lot of different ways and just kind of have a more creative mindset, I think that really plays in mind with the writing component of the job. Someone who's a strong writer, who likes reading in their own time.
If they also have a good pulse on the news outlets and the current state of what outlets are the biggest ones, or just are interested in that kind of stuff, that always helps. I've said before that a lot of people who work in public relations are outgoing.
So, if you're outgoing, you like to meet new people, you're good at talking in unfamiliar settings, or pretty much good at adapting to different situations and speaking to all kinds of different people, that's always a plus.
