What does a day in the life of a senior project manager look like?
My job involves a lot of cheerleading, therapy sessions for staff, and firefighting to clear roadblocks. When working towards any goal, you always have a plan. You create this plan to get from point A to point B.
However, in business and life, executing the plan can sometimes lead it completely off the rails, or you encounter unforeseen roadblocks. So, a big part of my job is handling those roadblocks and becoming solution-focused.
It's about addressing the problems that arise and figuring out the best solutions. Simultaneously, I work with staff daily. As mentioned, we're going through a lot of change and building things out.
Not everyone is naturally enthusiastic about change. So, I act as a cheerleader, helping staff through growing pains. I'm supportive, offer an empathetic ear, and affirm the importance of their roles in the business's success.
People bring me different problems daily, and I look for the best way to solve them or support them through their challenges and roadblocks. All the while, I'm keeping things moving forward and ensuring we are progressing day-to-day towards our next steps.
Every day is a little different, which is good because I'm not good at doing the same thing repeatedly. I like to adapt and think on my feet. Some days are more exhausting than others, but I'm always trying to do what's right for the organization and its people.
The organization and our supplement company rely on motivated staff excited to see it advance. Day-to-day activities include check-ins, one-on-ones, setting up meetings, building project plans, and developing infrastructure. It's about determining the next building block needed to move us forward.
