College Experiences That Helped a YouTuber Succeed With a YouTube Channel

Max, a YouTuber and career professional, emphasizes the importance of developing "the ability to learn new things" in undergrad, rather than solely focusing on a specific major, as career paths often evolve. The ability to approach challenges with a "Hey, I don't know how to do this thing, but I know that I can learn new things" attitude, and the willingness to research the earning potential of different degrees, are key to long-term career success.

What did you do in undergrad to set you up for success in your career?

I think the best thing people can do during their undergraduate years is to focus on learning as a skill that can be developed. So many people get into college and change their major several times. Or they finish undergrad and do postgraduate work that ends up being very different from what they initially started out doing.

Even their ultimate career might be something completely different. So, I would say don't stress too much about what you are studying. Focus on *how* you study and *how* you learn. The ability to learn new things is a skill that can be developed.

It's a skill that will be really, really important later in life and in business. You meet these personality types who try to do something and it's like, "Hey, I have this IKEA furniture that I need to put together, but I don't know how to do it. I guess I have to find somebody else to do it for me."

No, the whole point of IKEA furniture is that you put it together yourself. If somebody else can do it, you can do it. You just have to learn how. Having the ability and the attitude that says, "I don't know how to do this, but I know I can learn and I can figure out whatever I need to do," that is so important.

Apply that to school. Take classes that interest you and that you think are valuable. As a side note, whatever degree you're planning on getting, do a quick Google search of how much people are paid with that degree compared to others.

Some degrees, like philosophy, are interesting but may not lead to high earnings. It's good to know that before you finish school. So, I would do that step. But I think the main thing is to try to get really good at learning new things, because that's something that will benefit you forever.
