Biggest Challenges Faced by a YouTuber at a YouTube Business

Max's biggest challenge as a musician YouTuber is juggling the multifaceted nature of the role; "it involves so many different things," encompassing both musical performance and the business demands of running a YouTube channel, unlike the specialized roles of the traditional music industry. This requires a "really involved" approach across all aspects, a far cry from the simpler days of focusing solely on playing guitar.

What is your biggest challenge in your current role?

The biggest challenge in my current role is that there's so much to keep track of. My role involves so many different things, which is partially because it's like running a business where you have your hand in every part of it.

Also, what I do is related to music, and I'm a musician. When I make videos on YouTube, I'm playing guitar and performing. Back in the day, when the music industry was alive and kicking, musicians had very specific roles. You just had to show up, know the songs, and know how to play your instrument.

You'd show up to rehearsal, the show, or the studio, and play your instrument. That was it. Maybe you'd occasionally take photos or do an interview, but the business side was handled by other people like managers, booking agents, or road managers.

Now, the way the music industry works, all successful musicians have to be their own boss. They have to do a lot of social media and are involved in the technical side of making recordings. They also handle scheduling photographers and all of that.

Because what I do involves both music and running a YouTube business, coordinating with companies, the biggest challenge is managing all the things I need to keep track of. Sometimes I wish I could just wake up and want to play guitar, and that would be enough.

But the reality is you have to be really involved in all aspects of what's going on. So that's a big part of it.
