What are your main responsibilities within this role?
As a sales manager, my primary focus is revenue. You're given a growth target, and that's the number you have to hit. Ultimately, you have to present that you've met the target.
On the human side, you need to help develop your people's skill sets and make them better at their jobs. This development helps them progress and naturally move towards growth targets. Focusing on their needs, goals, and career aspirations, and providing constructive feedback, is crucial.
The final piece is the analytical side. You must know your book of business and be able to interpret data. This is a tool for presenting progress and forecasting accurately to upper leadership. You also need to identify gaps and growth opportunities for your frontline people and equip them with the skills to succeed.
You then set them free to do their jobs. Developing your people is a massive part of leadership. You have to shield them from pressure and give them the trust and training to do their work effectively. That's essentially what you do day-to-day on the leadership side.
